About Us

In 2014, artist and Hampton Roads native Kim Keene opened an art gallery, studio, and frame shop known as the Paint Gallery at 4408 North Colley Avenue. Her vision at the time was that the spot would be a gathering and teaching place for painters, photographers, and visual artists of all kinds. It wasn’t long before patrons suggested that a great cafe would be a wonderful addition. She listened–and agreed–and soon after, the Starving Artist Cafe was born.

The cafe serves breakfast and lunch all day. Staying true to her vision as a gallery, the works of local artists local artists Kathy Jublou, Barrett Pope, Clayton Singleton, Stacy Goode, Debbie Miller adorn the walls. The featured artist is always changing.

In the evening, the cafe becomes an intimate private venue for paint classes, musical entertainment, dinners, meetings, and events all kinds.

The Starving Artist Cafe was started with help of many friends including Robyn Thomas of Robyn Thomas Architecture, Greg Starling of R&R Construction and Rick Henn of Rick Henn Consulting.
